These classic Spanish wines are made at the foot of Sierra de Cantabria in Spain. The grapes originate from a family-operated vineyard that is over a century old, with newer vines planted in the last half century. This region has a mild, ideal climate and naturally contains clay-limestone soil, providing the optimal conditions to produce balanced, quality wines. The grape varietals used in AV's Spanish wines are Viura and Tempranillo. Tempranillo grapes are a black grape varietal used to make full-bodied Spanish red wine. Derived from the Spanish word for young, Tempranillo grapes ripen earlier than most Spanish red grapes. The Viura grape varietal can produce dry, semi-sweet and sweet white wines. All of Alexander Vineyards Spanish wines are produced in the Alavesa region of Rioja.
